Why should I use headphones for karaoke recording?
The short answer
Headphones keep the backing track from playing into your microphone through speakers. Speaker leakage can produce a doubled backing track and make your voice harder to mix. Feedback is another risk when microphone audio is amplified in the same room.
Try this workflow
- Use headphones before starting Karaoke Studio.
- Set the backing track loud enough to follow without overwhelming your voice.
- Record a short test and listen for leakage or unwanted doubling.
What to check before you finish
If the headphones leak a lot of sound, lower their volume and repeat the test. Keep the microphone away from the earcups. SurStudio records the backing from its beginning, so prepare the track before starting your take.
A practical example
Play a backing track through headphones at the lowest level that lets you follow timing and pitch comfortably. Record a short section with rests between phrases. Listen during those rests for accompaniment leakage. If it is clear, lower the headphone level or improve isolation before recording; editing leaked music afterward can be difficult.
More questions
Can I record with laptop speakers?
You can try, but the microphone may capture them. Headphones usually give a cleaner separation between your voice and the backing.
Do headphones remove room noise too?
No. They keep playback from speakers out of the microphone. Fans, traffic and room reflections still need to be addressed in the capture environment.
