How to use separated vocals in a video editing workflow

SurStudio works on audio and exports audio results. It does not import a video URL, rebuild a video container or render a karaoke video. You can still use it as one step in a video-editing workflow: export the soundtrack from your own project, process that audio, then bring the result back into the video editor.

Try this workflow

  1. In your video editor, export the relevant soundtrack as an audio file the browser can decode, such as WAV or MP3. Keep the video project and original soundtrack.
  2. Separate the audio in SurStudio and download Instrumental or Vocals according to your goal. Check both the start and end of the exported audio.
  3. Import the output into the video project, align it with the original soundtrack and mute the original where appropriate. Preview the complete edit before rendering the final video.

What to check before you finish

Keep the audio at its original speed if you need it to remain synchronized to a video. A pitch-and-speed edit can intentionally change timing, which then needs handling in the editor. Vocal separation itself does not remove visible subtitles or recover captions from the video.

A practical example

For a rehearsal video you recorded yourself, export the soundtrack, reduce the original singing and add your new microphone performance in the editing project. If a separate instrumental is already available, use that instead: avoiding separation can preserve the accompaniment more faithfully.

More questions

Can I paste a YouTube or SoundCloud URL?

There is no URL import in SurStudio. Use a local audio file you have permission to edit; this workflow does not download videos from other services.

Will I receive an MP4 from SurStudio?

No. Download the audio result here and use a video editor to create the final video file. Renaming WAV to MP4 does not create a video.
