How do I record vocals over a backing track?

The short answer

Prepare an instrumental before recording, then balance it against your microphone. A backing track that is too loud in the final mix can make a good vocal performance seem distant. Headphones help prevent the accompaniment from leaking into the vocal capture.

Try this workflow

  1. Upload an instrumental to Karaoke Studio.
  2. Set backing and microphone levels, then record a short test.
  3. Listen to the combined result before recording a full take.

What to check before you finish

Check the beginning and ending as well as the chorus. Your browser and audio device may introduce timing differences, so verify that your test feels aligned. Do not assume a louder microphone setting fixes timing or room noise.

A practical example

If the combined recording sounds like two versions of the backing are playing, check whether the microphone captured speaker playback. Use headphones and redo the test with less backing volume. If timing still feels off, inspect a clear beat or vocal entrance before recording the full performance; level changes cannot resolve a timing offset.

More questions

Can Karaoke Studio remove vocals automatically first?

Use Vocal Remover first, download its instrumental, then load that file into Karaoke Studio.

Should I record a long take before testing the setup?

A short test saves time. It checks input, balance, permission and timing before a full performance that may need to be repeated.
