Can I isolate guitar or piano separately?

The short answer

SurStudio currently groups guitar and piano with other accompaniment in the Other stem. It does not offer an independent guitar or piano output. If both instruments play at once, changing the volume of Other changes both together.

Try this workflow

  1. Solo Other to hear the accompaniment group.
  2. Look for a passage where the instrument you need plays clearly.
  3. Use Audio Cutter to save that passage for listening or practice.

What to check before you finish

Avoid labeling the Other download as a guitar-only track. It can include strings, keyboards and effects as well. EQ may help you hear one part more clearly, but it cannot reliably separate instruments that overlap.

A practical example

If a piano solo occurs during a quiet bridge, solo Other and trim that bridge as a study clip. The same stem may sound much busier during the chorus because guitar and strings return. Use the passage for its actual content rather than naming the entire output after whichever instrument is most obvious at one moment.

More questions

Can a narrow EQ band extract piano?

No. Piano spans a wide frequency range and shares it with many instruments. EQ is tone shaping, not source separation.

Can muting vocals reveal a hidden guitar part?

It may make the part easier to hear, but it does not guarantee that the guitar becomes an isolated or artifact-free recording.
