How do I use a ten-band equalizer?
How do I use a ten-band equalizer?
An equalizer changes the level of frequency ranges. Low bands affect bass, middle bands influence body and presence, and higher bands affect brightness. Every instrument in a selected band is affected, so a move that helps the voice can also change guitar or cymbals.
Try this workflow
- Open Audio Equalizer and start with all bands at zero.
- Adjust one band modestly and compare against the original.
- Return unhelpful changes to zero before exporting.
What to check before you finish
Judge tone at a similar listening volume. Boosting many bands can simply make the file louder and consume headroom. Identify the problem first, then make the smallest move that actually helps.
A practical example
A dull mix may benefit from a small high-band lift, but that also raises hiss and cymbals. Try one or two decibels as an experiment, listen at a matched level and undo it if noise becomes distracting. Keeping the rest of the bands unchanged helps reveal whether that specific move actually improved the tone.
More questions
Can EQ create separate stems?
No. It changes shared frequency ranges and does not assign sound to individual instruments.
Should I use a smile-shaped EQ curve by default?
No. Boosting bass and treble is not universally helpful. Start flat and change only the ranges that address a problem you can hear.
