Does basic mastering set streaming loudness automatically?

The short answer

SurStudio's Basic Mastering uses tone shaping, compression and peak normalization around minus one decibel. It does not target a platform-specific integrated LUFS value. Peak level and perceived loudness describe different aspects of a recording, so they should not be confused.

Try this workflow

  1. Start with a mix whose balance already works.
  2. Use modest brightness and compression settings.
  3. Check delivery requirements separately if you are preparing a release.

What to check before you finish

Do not repeatedly master an already processed file just to make it louder. Keep a clean mix export so you can revise settings without accumulating effects. Listen for weakened transients and harshness after processing.

A practical example

If a delivery workflow asks for a loudness target, do not infer it from SurStudio's peak-normalized download. Use an appropriate measurement workflow and consult the delivery requirements. Keep the unmastered mix available so any needed changes can be made from a clean source instead of repeatedly processing an already finished file.

More questions

Does a minus-one-decibel peak guarantee a compliant master?

No. It does not by itself establish integrated loudness, true-peak behavior or other delivery requirements.

Can I use Basic Mastering for practice demos?

Yes, as a starting point for tone and dynamics. Listen carefully and describe it as basic processing rather than a guaranteed release-ready mastering result.
