Should I download 16-bit or 24-bit WAV?

The short answer

Both options export WAV audio, with different precision and file sizes. Sixteen-bit is often a practical smaller download; twenty-four-bit can be useful when the file will undergo further editing. A higher export bit depth cannot recover information missing from the source.

Try this workflow

  1. Choose 16-bit when file size is your main concern.
  2. Choose 24-bit for a working copy if later editing benefits from it.
  3. Keep a clear filename indicating the version you exported.

What to check before you finish

Do not confuse bit depth with sample rate or with lossy codec bitrate. They describe different parts of a digital file. Listen to the result and keep the original rather than repeatedly converting the same file.

A practical example

If you are sending a finished practice backing to a friend, a 16-bit WAV may be a practical choice. If you are keeping a working version for later edits, 24-bit can be useful. Keep both clearly named if needed, and avoid implying that the larger one contains a cleaner separation than the smaller one.

More questions

Does 24-bit make a damaged recording clean?

No. It changes output precision, not the quality of the performance, recording or separation estimate.

Does bit depth control the song's pitch?

No. Bit depth concerns sample precision. Pitch changes require audio processing or a playback-rate change, not simply another export bit-depth option.
