How do I use an online tuner for voice or instruments?

The short answer

The tuner estimates the pitch of one steady note using your microphone. It is best suited to a single voice or instrument in a quiet space. Chords and background music can make the reading jump because several pitches are present at once.

Try this workflow

  1. Allow microphone access in a direct browser tab.
  2. Play or sing one clear sustained note.
  3. Wait for the cents reading to settle before adjusting.

What to check before you finish

SurStudio uses A4 at 440 Hz as its reference. Watch the steady part of a note rather than its noisy attack. For voice practice, aim for controlled listening and repeatable notes rather than chasing every brief fluctuation.

A practical example

For a plucked string, let the initial noisy attack settle and watch the steadier pitch reading that follows. Pluck one string at a time and reduce background sound. If the tuner jumps during a chord, simplify the input rather than assuming the instrument suddenly changed tuning on every displayed reading.

More questions

Does the tuner automatically correct my singing?

No. It displays a pitch reading and does not alter, tune or record your voice.

Does the tuner support alternate reference tuning?

This version uses A4 at 440 Hz. It does not expose a separate reference-frequency control, so account for that when another tuning standard is required.
